Andréa Ramalho holds a degree in Nutrition from UFPE, with further specialization in Biochemistry of Nutrition and Nutritional Physiology. She has a Master's and Doctorate in Public Health from FIOCRUZ. She completed professional training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT/USA) as a scholar of the World Health Organization (IVACG/WHO) and is currently a Full Professor at the Institute of Nutrition at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She is the Coordinator of the Micronutrient Research Center at UFRJ, a level I Productivity Research Fellow by CNPq, a Scientist of Our State by FAPERJ, and the Coordinator of the Specialization Course in Applied Phytotherapy to Clinical Nutrition (CEFITO/UFRJ). She acts as a consultant to the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Health Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro, FAPERJ, CNPq, various State Research Support Foundations in Brazil, Helen Keller International, the National Eye Institute, and is a Senior Consultant for Corporate Health and Wellness Programs at Petrobras. She has been a research fellow on projects funded by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS/USA). Andréa is a member of the National Consultant Bank of the Brazilian Research Support Foundations (FAPs), a Technical Advisor for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Ministry of Science and Technology, and a Visiting Scientist at MIT/USA. She has published over 200 articles in national and international journals and several books in the field of Health and Nutrition at both national and international levels. She is a member of the editorial board of the Global Journal of Obesity, Journal of Surgery, Journal of Research in Obesity, IBIMA Publishing, Journal of Nutrition and Nutritional Epidemiology, The Scientific Pages of Pediatric, and Nutrire, and a reviewer for specialized journals such as the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, The Lancet, Nutrition, Medical Science Monitor, Public Health Nutrition, International Journal of Tropical Diseases, and The Cochrane Hepato-Biliary Group, among others. She participates in undergraduate teaching in Nutrition at UFRJ and is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Programs in Nutrition at the Institute of Nutrition/UFRJ and in Clinical Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine/UFRJ. Her work focuses on assessing the nutritional status of micronutrients and their relationship with body, biochemical, molecular, clinical, functional variables, and metabolic phenotypes across different population segments and life cycle phases, also considering the association of micronutrient deficiencies with infectious processes and non-communicable chronic diseases in various population segments.
