Bachelor’s degree in Medicine from the University of Rio de Janeiro (1981), Master's degree in Medicine (Internal Medicine) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1990), PhD in Medicine (Infectious and Parasitic Diseases) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1993), Associate Professor in Infectology at UNIFESP (2009), and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (USA) from 2009 to 2010. Full Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He conducts his activities in the Hematology Service of the Clementino Fraga Filho University Hospital, where he primarily focuses on the study of supportive therapy (especially infections) in patients with hematological malignancies and bone marrow transplant recipients, as well as in the Mycology Laboratory of the Hospital. His research interests include infections in immunocompromised patients and invasive fungal infections. His main areas of interest are: infections in cancer patients, infections in neutropenic patients, nosocomial fungal infections, candidiasis, aspergillosis, fusariosis, development of predictive scores, use of biomarkers for early diagnosis and monitoring of infections, and optimization of antifungal use in hospitals. He also acts as a consultant for infectious complications in patients with hematological diseases and in bone marrow transplant recipients at various hospitals.
