Full Professor and Head of the Dermatology Service at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ. She obtained her Livre-Docência in Dermatology from UNIRIO (1991) and completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at Tulane University, New Orleans, United States (2004). She holds a Ph.D. (1992) and a Master's degree (1987), both in Medicine (Field: Dermatology) from UFRJ. She graduated from the UFRJ School of Medicine (1978). She has experience in Clinical and Surgical Dermatology, with an emphasis on the following topics: oral dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, tropical dermatology, cutaneous immunopathology, and skin cancer. She has received several awards and honors, including: Maria Duran Lectureship and Honors from the International Society of Dermatology, awarded at the World Congress of Dermatology in Italy (2019); International Clinical Care Award from the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, received during the EADV Congress in Paris (2018); 51st Jabuti Award - Best Book in Natural Sciences and Health Sciences (2009); WDS International Pioneer Award for Distinguished Women in Dermatology (2007); Maria M. Duran Medal for significant services to International Dermatology (2006); Honorary Member of the American Academy of Dermatology since 2019; Canadian Dermatological Association since 2008; American Dermatological Association since 2005; Maltese Association of Dermatology and Venereology since 2003; and Cuban Society of Dermatology since 1996. She was part of the International Committee of Dermatology of the International League of Dermatological Societies. She is on the editorial board of several international journals and has held various positions in multiple medical societies. She has supervised Master's and Doctoral theses and participated in various thesis committees. She presided over two world congresses of the IACD and was president of the centenary congress of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology. She has an extensive publication record in Dermatology.
