He holds a degree in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2000), a residency in Gastroenterology from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (2003), a Master’s in Research in Liver Disease from the University of Barcelona (2010), and a PhD in Medicine and Translational Research from the University of Barcelona (2016). He is a physician and Head of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department at the Federal Hospital of Bonsucesso (Ministry of Health - Brazil), an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, and a fellow of the Research and Productivity Program at Estácio de Sá University. His main areas of focus include: liver cirrhosis and its complications (renal failure, acute-on-chronic liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy, bacterial infections), non-invasive methods for assessing hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic liver diseases, and viral hepatitis in special situations (decompensated cirrhosis, renal failure, and kidney transplantation).
