Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1996), where she also completed her medical residency in Pediatrics (1999) and specialized in Pediatric Hematology (2000). She obtained her Doctorate in Medicine from UFRJ (2004-2006), with a sandwich PhD at the Cancer Research Center of the University of Salamanca, Spain, where she was supervised by Professor Alberto Orfao, with a scholarship from CAPES. She has been a visiting researcher at the University of Salamanca since 2006. She works on investigating new analysis methods for the diagnosis and monitoring of malignant neoplasms through flow cytometry. Her scientific output includes publications in journals such as Leukemia, Blood, PLOS One, and Cytometry A. She is the inventor on several international patents. She is a member of the European consortium for flow cytometry - EuroFlow. She was a pediatric oncohematologist at the Martagão Gesteira Institute of Pediatrics and Child Health - IPPMG/UFRJ (2003-2011) and has since been an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UFRJ. She is a permanent faculty member of the UFRJ Clinical Medicine Program (CAPES = 7). She coordinates the Child and Adolescent Health Research Center at UFRJ. She is a level 2 researcher at CNPq.
