Full Professor of the Department of Pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Graduated in Medicine from UFRJ (1974); Master’s degree in Tisiology and Pneumology from UFRJ (1982) and PhD in Medicine (Infectious and Parasitic Diseases) from UFRJ (1994). Permanent faculty member of the postgraduate programs in Clinical Medicine, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases at UFRJ, and the Graduate Program in Maternal and Child Health. Collaborator in the Professional Master's Program in Maternal and Child Health at UFF. Specialist in Pediatric Pneumology (1995) by the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics (SBP). Member of the Technical Advisory Committee on Tuberculosis of the Ministry of Health and of the Childhood Tuberculosis Sub Group of the StopTB initiative of the World Health Organization. Coordinated and edited the books Tuberculosis in Childhood (with Newton Bethlem, 1985 and 1988), Tuberculosis in Childhood and Adolescence (2002), and Tuberculosis in Children and Youth (in Spanish 2011 and in Portuguese 2014), among others. Coordinator of the Pediatrics area of the Tuberculosis Research Network - REDE-TB (2016-2018 and 2018 to 2020). Emeritus Member of REDE TB since 2020. Vice President of the Society of Pediatrics of the State of Rio de Janeiro (SOPERJ) in the trienniums 1998-2000 and 2004-2006. Former Editor of the SOPERJ Pediatrics Journal (1676-1014); President of the Scientific Department of Pneumology of the SBP (1990-1992) and (2002-2004). President of the X Brazilian Congress of Pediatric Pneumology (Rio de Janeiro, 2004). Editor of the journal Residência Pediátrica (ISSN-Online: 2236-6814). Productivity Fellow at level 1B of CNPq.
