She holds a degree in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1979), a master's degree in Medicine (Cardiology) from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1986), and a doctorate in Medicine (Cardiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2000). She is currently a Full Professor of Internal Medicine at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She is the coordinator of the Type 2 Diabetes Program at HUCFF-UFRJ and a member of the Hypertension Program at HUCFF-UFRJ. She is a C1 researcher at CNPq and a Scientist at FAPERJ. She has experience in the field of Medicine, with an emphasis on Internal Medicine, mainly working on the following topics: diabetes mellitus, hypertension, systemic lupus erythematosus, repolarization parameters, and perioperative management.
