Graduated in Biological Sciences, with a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics (1994), and a Ph.D. in Biophysics (2000), specializing in Immunology from the Carlos Chagas Filho Biophysics Institute at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He completed postdoctoral training at New York University (2000-2003) and Johns Hopkins University (2003-2006), where he developed projects related to the development of vaccination technologies and the study of the biology of protective T cell responses against pathogens. He has specialized training in T lymphocyte cloning techniques from Hoffman La Roche, Italy (1998), and experience in immunology of infectious diseases, focusing primarily on the following topics: immunoregulation, adaptive immunity, and pathogen-host interaction. From 2006 to 2007, he was part of the Research Associate team at the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases/NIH, where he developed projects aimed at investigating adaptive immune mechanisms associated with the control of intracellular pathogens. He is a reviewer for national and international journals, an Ad hoc consultant for funding agencies in Brazil and abroad, a member of the organizational committee for the 2015 International Conference on Parasitology in Philadelphia, USA, and a current member of the scientific committee of the II Caparica International Conference on Leishmaniasis, Portugal, October 2020. He has held a Research Productivity Fellowship (CNPq – since 2008; level 1 since 2011), is a Scientist of Our State/RJ (FAPERJ – since 2016), an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and a Specialist in Science, Technology, Innovation, and Public Health at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute/FIOCRUZ, where he investigates immunological mechanisms associated with changes in the central and peripheral lymphoid system in infectious diseases and immunodeficiencies.
