27 08 ppgcm corpo do artigo silhuetaAndréa Ramalho holds a degree in Nutrition from UFPE, with further specialization in Biochemistry of Nutrition and Nutritional Physiology. She has a Master's and Doctorate in Public Health from FIOCRUZ. She completed professional training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT/USA) as a scholar of the World Health Organization (IVACG/WHO) and is currently a Full Professor at the Institute of Nutrition at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She is the Coordinator of the Micronutrient Research Center at UFRJ, a level I Productivity Research Fellow by CNPq, a Scientist of Our State by FAPERJ, and the Coordinator of the Specialization Course in Applied Phytotherapy to Clinical Nutrition (CEFITO/UFRJ). She acts as a consultant to the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Health Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro, FAPERJ, CNPq, various State Research Support Foundations in Brazil, Helen Keller International, the National Eye Institute, and is a Senior Consultant for Corporate Health and Wellness Programs at Petrobras. She has been a research fellow on projects funded by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS/USA). Andréa is a member of the National Consultant Bank of the Brazilian Research Support Foundations (FAPs), a Technical Advisor for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Ministry of Science and Technology, and a Visiting Scientist at MIT/USA. She has published over 200 articles in national and international journals and several books in the field of Health and Nutrition at both national and international levels. She is a member of the editorial board of the Global Journal of Obesity, Journal of Surgery, Journal of Research in Obesity, IBIMA Publishing, Journal of Nutrition and Nutritional Epidemiology, The Scientific Pages of Pediatric, and Nutrire, and a reviewer for specialized journals such as the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, The Lancet, Nutrition, Medical Science Monitor, Public Health Nutrition, International Journal of Tropical Diseases, and The Cochrane Hepato-Biliary Group, among others. She participates in undergraduate teaching in Nutrition at UFRJ and is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Programs in Nutrition at the Institute of Nutrition/UFRJ and in Clinical Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine/UFRJ. Her work focuses on assessing the nutritional status of micronutrients and their relationship with body, biochemical, molecular, clinical, functional variables, and metabolic phenotypes across different population segments and life cycle phases, also considering the association of micronutrient deficiencies with infectious processes and non-communicable chronic diseases in various population segments.

General Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies at IBCCF, Young Scientist of Our State (FAPERJ) from November 2015 to November 2021, Scientist of Our State (FAPERJ) since December 2021, and Productivity Grant Holder in Research 2 - CA BF since 2016. First Laureate as Young Researcher at the Latin American Sepsis Institute - Institut Merieux. Former Head of the Thematic Program in Regenerative Medicine (2017 to 2019), through which he organized monthly meetings to discuss innovative methods with biotechnology companies (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Eppendorf, and Promega) in an effort to bring universities and companies closer together. Contributed for 16 months with experiments and analyses for the startup Biozeus in the search for innovative drugs for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. Permanent member of the Postgraduate Program in Biological Sciences (Physiology) and the Postgraduate Program in Clinical Medicine (both rated 7 by CAPES). Secretary of the Brazilian Society of Physiology (SBFis, Management 2021/2022). Engages in projects related to: 1) ventilatory strategies in lung diseases; 2) innovative treatments in monocrotaline-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension models; 3) pulmonary biological markers; 4) physiological interactions between the respiratory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems. Has experience in the field of Physiology, with an emphasis on respiratory physiology and pathophysiology, primarily focusing on the following topics: severe asthma, acute respiratory distress syndrome, respiratory mechanics, obesity, pulmonary arterial hypertension, hypovolemia, hemodynamics, alveolar-capillary membrane, and biological markers of alveolar stress.

Currently, she is a physician at the Clementino Fraga Filho Hospital and a professor in the Graduate Program in Clinical Medicine at UFRJ. She has experience in the field of Medicine, with an emphasis on Clinical Medicine and Hepatology, primarily working on the following topics: type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, epidemiology, and therapy.

27 08 ppgcm corpo do artigo silhuetaGraduated in Medicine (1975) and PhD in Molecular Biology (1975), both from the Escola Paulista de Medicina (UNIFESP). He began his independent scientific career at the Medical Investigation Laboratories (LIM) of the Hospital das Clínicas da FMUSP (1976-81). He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine (USA) from 1979 to 1980, with a grant from the "US NIH/Fogarty International Research Fellow." Since 1981, he has been a faculty member of Medical Biochemistry at UFRJ, becoming a Full Professor in 1992. He coordinates the "Connective Tissue Laboratory," located at the University Hospital of UFRJ, as part of a project integrating basic and clinical areas of the institution. His research focus is glycobiology, particularly studying the structure, biological activity, and metabolism of sulfated polysaccharides. His work has been funded by regular grants from CNPq, FAPERJ, and international agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience, British Council, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (Canada), and COFECUB (France). He has been a Fellow of the "John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation," is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, and is a member of the National Order of Scientific Merit (Commander class). From 2003 to 2004, he served as president of the Brazilian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

27 08 ppgcm corpo do artigo silhuetaGraduated in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1996, Master’s in Biological Sciences (Biophysics) from UFRJ in 1998, and Doctorate in Biological Chemistry from UFRJ in 2001. He completed postdoctoral studies in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Boston University School of Medicine (USA) in 2015 and in Parasitic Biochemistry at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of São Paulo in 2022. In 2018, he obtained the title of Livre-docente in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Institute of Chemistry at the University of São Paulo. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Leopoldo de Meis Institute of Medical Biochemistry at UFRJ and heads the Stress Response Biochemistry Laboratory. The research projects conducted in his laboratory focus on the role of mitochondria in the response pathways to different types of cellular stresses, including those generated by nutritional imbalances, activation of the immune response, or aging. He has been a critical voice against the commercial exploitation of open access scientific publications promoted by large publishing groups and in 2021 was one of the proponents of the Initiative for Responsible Scientific Assessment (IRSA). In 2022, he became an associate editor of the journal "Bioenergetics Communications," a new open-access journal following the diamond model, with an innovative editorial proposal that is economically fairer and more inclusive.
