avatarHolds a degree in Medicine (1979) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), specialization (Residency) in Pediatrics (1982) from IPPMG-UFRJ, a Master’s in Pediatrics (1989) from UFRJ, specialization (Fellowship) in Clinical Epidemiology (1992) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) (1992) from UNC-CH, a Ph.D. in Epidemiology (1996) from UNC-CH, and specialization in Hospital Management (2005) and Postdoctoral studies (2018) from the National School of Public Health - Fiocruz. He is a member of the international network INCLEN (International Clinical Epidemiology Network). He served as President of LATINCLEN, the regional network for Latin America of INCLEN, of which he is still a member. He is currently also a member of the Cochrane network. He has served on several occasions as an advisor/consultant for the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization. He actively contributed to the implementation of the IMCI strategy in Latin America and worldwide. At UFRJ, he was the Coordinator of the IPPMG Medical Residency, Head of the IPPMG Research Division, Head of the Department of Pediatrics at FM-UFRJ, Director of IPPMG (2002-2006), Director of the Faculty of Medicine (2006-2011), Vice-Rector (2011-2015), Coordinator of the Academic Master’s in Maternal and Child Health at IPPMG (2016-2018). He participated in the Executive Leadership Program in "Early Childhood Development" at Harvard University (2016). He is currently a Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics (UFRJ). He coordinates the Multidisciplinary Laboratory of Epidemiology and Health - LAMPES at UFRJ and the Coordination of Special Projects at the Decania of the Center for Health Sciences at UFRJ. Since 2019, he has held the Carlos Chagas Chair at the College of Advanced Studies (CBAE) at UFRJ. He participates in several graduate programs in the country, including the UFRJ Clinical Medicine Program (Concept 7) and the IESC Public Health Program (Concept 5). He is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the Science for Childhood Network (NCPI) and an Associate Researcher at the Brazilian Center for Applied Research in Early Childhood (CEPAPI). He conducts research using epidemiological methods and clinical epidemiology in various areas of health. He has experience in the field of Medicine, with an emphasis on Maternal and Child Health, conducting research mainly in this area. In 2020, he was named among the world’s "most influential" 160,000 scientists in two rankings published in the scientific journal PLOS Biology (2020): career impact (Table-S6-career-2019) and impact in 2019 (Table-S7-singleyr-2019). In the first ranking, he was listed alongside approximately 600 other Brazilians.

avatarGraduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1996), where she also completed her medical residency in Pediatrics (1999) and specialized in Pediatric Hematology (2000). She obtained her Doctorate in Medicine from UFRJ (2004-2006), with a sandwich PhD at the Cancer Research Center of the University of Salamanca, Spain, where she was supervised by Professor Alberto Orfao, with a scholarship from CAPES. She has been a visiting researcher at the University of Salamanca since 2006. She works on investigating new analysis methods for the diagnosis and monitoring of malignant neoplasms through flow cytometry. Her scientific output includes publications in journals such as Leukemia, Blood, PLOS One, and Cytometry A. She is the inventor on several international patents. She is a member of the European consortium for flow cytometry - EuroFlow. She was a pediatric oncohematologist at the Martagão Gesteira Institute of Pediatrics and Child Health - IPPMG/UFRJ (2003-2011) and has since been an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UFRJ. She is a permanent faculty member of the UFRJ Clinical Medicine Program (CAPES = 7). She coordinates the Child and Adolescent Health Research Center at UFRJ. She is a level 2 researcher at CNPq.

Permanent faculty member of the postgraduate programs in Clinical Medicine, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases at UFRJ, and the Graduate Program in Maternal and Child Health. Collaborator in the Professional Master's Program in Maternal and Child Health at UFF. Specialist in Pediatric Pneumology (1995) by the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics (SBP). Member of the Technical Advisory Committee on Tuberculosis of the Ministry of Health and of the Childhood Tuberculosis Sub Group of the StopTB initiative of the World Health Organization. Coordinated and edited the books Tuberculosis in Childhood (with Newton Bethlem, 1985 and 1988), Tuberculosis in Childhood and Adolescence (2002), and Tuberculosis in Children and Youth (in Spanish 2011 and in Portuguese 2014), among others. Coordinator of the Pediatrics area of the Tuberculosis Research Network - REDE-TB (2016-2018 and 2018 to 2020). Emeritus Member of REDE TB since 2020. Vice President of the Society of Pediatrics of the State of Rio de Janeiro (SOPERJ) in the trienniums 1998-2000 and 2004-2006. avatarHe holds a degree in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1985), a master's degree in Psychoanalytic Theory from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1993), and a doctorate in Public Health from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1997). He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer epidemiology (2001). He is a Full Professor of Pediatric Hematology at the UFRJ School of Medicine, assigned to the Department of Pediatrics. He served as Director of the Martagão Gesteira Institute of Child Care and Pediatrics (IPPMG) at UFRJ from 2006 to 2010. He was a member of the National Health Council, representing ABRAHUE during the three-year period from 2006 to 2009. He was Coordinator of the UFRJ Hospital Complex from 2011 to 2012. He is currently the head of the Pediatric Hematology Sector at IPPMG and is also the Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Maternal and Child Health at IPPMG. He has experience in the field of Medicine, with an emphasis on Pediatric Hematology, working primarily on the following topics: hematology, pediatric hematology, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, lymphomas, anemia, health economics, cancer epidemiology, and ethics.
